Google is giving schools an off switch for Gemini, with a catch: switch AI off completely, and Google Search goes dark with it.

That wasn't even the boldest ask of the week. Anthropic wants to read two years of your bank transactions, and the AI trade just lost $450 billion off one company in a single day.

No deep-dive today. Here's the week, what it means for you, and a ten-minute cleanup to do before Diwali. But first…

AI is only as good as what you tell it

The fastest way to give AI more context is to talk. But that only works if the transcription is right. Wispr Flow runs on Canto, its own speech model, trained on real dictation instead of studio audio.

In Wispr's tests on 10 hours of real dictations from 2,300+ speakers, Canto had the lowest word error rate of every model tested, including Google and OpenAI. It also pulls from your personal dictionary, so tool names, project names and teammates come out spelled right.

Talk through the whole problem, hit enter, and get a better answer. 4x faster than typing, in every app.

Google to schools: take Gemini or lose Search

From next year, Google's AI tools stay off for school-managed K-12 student accounts unless the school switches them on.

A school that blocks AI completely loses Google Search too, because, in Google's words, "Search and AI are deeply integrated." Bernie Sanders called it "extortion," and former FTC chair Lina Khan said Google is using its search monopoly to push AI into classrooms.

My take: Plenty of Indian schools run on Google Workspace too. Once AI comes bundled with something a school can't function without, opting out stops being an option anyone can afford.

Claude wants to see your bank statements

Anthropic launched Personal Finance in beta for US Pro, Max and Ultra users.

You connect accounts through Plaid, so Claude never sees your bank password, and it reads up to two years of transactions to flag charges that hit twice, surprise fees and bills that crept up over the year.

My take: India's Account Aggregator system already lets apps pull bank data with your consent, so expect this here eventually.

Before you connect any AI to your money, check three things: can it only read, who sits in the middle, and does your data train the model? For Claude it's yes, Plaid, and no for chats inside the finance hub.

My take: No stock tips. But the AI tools you use are priced on this spending spree continuing, and if it slows, you'll feel it as a price hike on a plan you already pay for.

Tools on my radar

Rerun: Turns your existing ChatGPT or Claude plan into AI coworkers that sort your inbox and chase invoices, and it's open source.

ChatNest: A browser extension that adds folders and a prompt library to your AI chats.

Pinku: A private AI chat that runs offline on your iPhone and Mac.

My two cents

Companies will keep switching AI on by default, because every account you connect gives them more data and makes their product harder to leave.

Most of us connected Gmail or Drive to an AI app once, for one task, and forgot it was there. Spend ten minutes this weekend undoing that.

Start with Google's list of apps that can see your account, then open the settings in ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini and disconnect anything you haven't used in a month.

Reply and tell me: would you connect your bank account to an AI? Yes or no, and why.

Happy Diwali to you and your family.

Until next time,
Vaibhav 🤝
